Donations of cash and food made between March 1 and April 30, 2014 to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, its four branch banks and Caridad Community Kitchen are eligible for the Feinstein Challenge. During this nationwide challenge, the Rhode Island-based Feinstein Foundation will provide a partial match for every dollar raised or pound of food donated.
For the 17th consecutive year, $1 million will be divided among hunger-fighting agencies nationwide, including the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona and its branch food banks.
The Feinstein Foundation was founded by Alan Shawn Feinstein and is dedicated to the alleviation of hunger, the importance of community service in education and the values of caring, compassion and brotherhood.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses, schools, churches and communities to come together and have their contributions of food or dollars matched by the Feinstein Challenge to benefit local families in need,” said Michael McDonald, Community Food Bank CEO.
To make donations eligible for the Feinstein Challenge, they must be received by the Community Food Bank between March 1 and April 30, 2014. Donations may be made online or by calling (520) 882-3296.
UA4Food 2014 Kicks Off on March 3rd to
Benefit the Community Food Bank for the Tenth Consecutive Year
Tucson: For the tenth consecutive year, UA4Food will combine the efforts of University of Arizona students, faculty and staff to fight hunger. Proceeds from this year’s UA4Food Drive will benefit the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona’s hunger relief programs.
The UA4Food Drive is a program of The University of Arizona Office of Community Relations and is supported by the Marshall Foundation. Detailed information is available at www.ua4food.arizona.edu.
Various organizations on campus will conduct individual food drives throughout the school year. Organizations and dates for the food drives follow:

Participate in the fifth annual “Stuff the CatTran” event organized by the Staff Advisory Council, Parking & Transportation Services and UA Community Relations. Community members are also encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items. Cash contributions will be accepted. Drive up drop-off will be available.

Caremore Health Plan of Arizona Presents “Stuff the Bus” Week
The Caremore Stuff the Bus will be held in Tucson from December 2nd to the 6th, 9 am- 12 pm and then in Green valley on the 7th from 9 am to 12 pm
TUCSON –A “Stuff the Bus” event to benefit the Community Food Banks will be held by CareMore Health Plan of Arizona at two Care Center locations in the Tucson area the week of December 2nd through the 7th.
Officials at CareMore stated the CareMore bus will be stationed at the Care Center location, 4821 N Stone Avenue (near the corner of River and Stone), daily from December 2nd through the 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The bus will then be in Green Valley during the same time frame on Saturday, December 7th. The Green Valley Care Center is located at 191 W Esperanza Boulevard.
CareMore hopes that the public will participate by taking non-perishable food items to the bus. The food banks also need toiletries and senior incontinence products. The drive is being held to assist the food banks in providing those in need with ample amounts of food and ancillary items.
Mary Jane Goodrick, Executive Director of the Green Valley-Sahuarita Food Bank stated, “When people in our community don’t have enough food to get through the day, it costs us all. Food insecurity creates health problems. Children may struggle to learn. Workers may be less productive. Opportunities are lost. These are all real people struggling to get enough to eat.”

Community Food Bank to Benefit From the 64th Annual Winterhaven Festival of Lights December 14 through December 28, 2013
Tucson: The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona will again benefit from the 64th Annual Winterhaven Festival of Lights to be held from December 14 through December 28, 2013. Visitors to the Festival may walk through the neighborhood from 6:00 to 10:00 PM each night.
This year the drive through nights will be December 17th, 27th and 28th.
Visitors will enjoy the colorful home decorations, lights and majestic trees in the Winterhaven neighborhood. While many people walk the streets of Winterhaven, visitors may also enjoy haywagon rides, and heated trolley rides through the neighborhood.
Last year the Winterhaven Festival of Lights collected 33,905 pounds of food and $20,753 for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. Winterhaven residents hope to top that total in 2013.
There is no entrance fee for the Festival, but attendees are asked to bring canned food or make a monetary donation to the Food Bank. Most needed items are cereal, canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soups and canned tomato products. Also, a reminder that for every $1 donated to the Food Bank it can distribute four meals.
